Vila East School & Matamata Intermediate School’s project

This photo shows her meeting the teacher, Sophie Wilson, in the classroom in Vila East School, in Vanuatu, and giving the class some letters from Matamata Intermediate School’s...

Hockey Sticks donated by Kiwanis Vanuatu

The Kiwanis Club of Port Vila is very pleased to have been able to donate over 50 hockey sticks to the Vanuatu Hockey Federation, based at Wan Smol Bag. We are excited that those hockey sticks will go to young players in the villages outside of Port Vila to help them along in the development of their sport. Mark Stafford of Kiwanis says it is through helping young kids develop their potential in all sports that our country will grow stronger. We wish all of the kids involved in hockey in Vanuatu every success. Kiwanis Club of Port Vila also acknowledges our friends from Kiwanis in New Zealand who work so hard to assist us in distributing so many useful items throughout the various communities around Vanuatu. In 2015 we will have distributed school materials; furniture; and equipment as well as sporting goods worth an estimated 40,000,000vt. The program from NZ has, in the past 20 years, brought goods to Vanuatu with a notional value of over 500,000,000vt. This all falls in line with the Kiwanis motto of “Helping the Children of the World”. Mark Stafford, Vice-President Mr Jean Noel Anis, WSB Sports Coordinator, UT SENTA writes: “On behalf of our Hockey Federation and our WSB Sports we would like to thank you for the hockey sticks handed over yesterday (27 October).  Due to the growing interest in the sport and its achievement at the recent SPG as silver medallist, there was huge participation from youths coming from peri-urban communities. The sticks will help the hockey tutors to carry out their communities program efficiently –  compared to past experiences by which there was a strong need to move around the Island with sticks – instead we shall give out some to our existing primary schools up north in Tanoliu, Eton and Ekipe. We thank you for these gifts deemed precious to the youths and the development of Hockey as a...

Megan Allan accompanied by a party of 8 friends visited Vanuatu after cyclone Pam. The group was welcomed to Vanuatu with a dinner hosted by long time Kiwanis member Clement Martinez at his restaurant L’Houstalet on the Friday night. The following day Mark S organized a “disaster relief” delivery run around Efate. Goods delivered included food and medical kits. Also during the visit Mark organized a tour of the Blood Bank of Vanuatu which has been a project of our club. The visit also coincided with the 100th Anniversary of Kiwanis International.
